Family of Four
It's been 7 days. Here's the update... (I promise no gross details!)
Birth Story - the short version!
Wednesday June 26
5am Checked into the hospital to be induced but my labor contractions increased on their own.
6:30 Epidural at 7.5cm
7:00 They broke my water
8:30 Started to feel like she was coming... "Ummm doctor!?!"
8:45 Harper was born after about 10 minutes of pushing
Avery has been extremely affectionate towards "Baby Harper Kate Wolff". She asks me if Harper can sleep with her at night, and it's the first thing she asks for in the morning (after asking where daddy is). She's also my little helper - getting me diapers and wipes etc. She has been awesome through this major transition.
Us. Jake and I are working much better as a team this time around. It's made a HUGE difference. When he gets home from work he's either A. Cuddling with baby Harper or B. playing with Avery. We take turns eating, cleaning, cuddling with Avery, then with Harper... It's been great.
Sleep. Knock on wood- but sleep hasn't been as evasive as I remember. Harper still sleeps most of the day and night in general, but after feedings in the night (every 2.4 - 4 hours) she goes right back to sleep. Unfortunately Avery's been coughing through the night, meaning less sleep, but we are both rested during the days and I'm able to nap (with Avery I couldn't shut my brain off to nap during the days. Different story now!). SOOOOOO grateful for sleep.
Routines. For the most part, life seems fairly normal. Which sounds totally crazy. But I don't feel any more chaotic (there are moments, but they're only moments). I don't feel torn in two directions. My love just multiplied, not divided. We're adapting well to our new addition. We'll see how all that changes when she's awake more, eventually moving around... etc
So that's the 7 day update.
Who knows about tomorrow, but grateful for a smooth, joyful and relatively restful 7 days...
Thanks for all the messages, prayers, texts, meals, Facebook photo likes, and love!
